As of 5/13/2014, there were two fish from spawn #30 who had yet to undergo metamorphosis; the rest had. Trying to avoid past issues of small groups doing well and then just dying randomly, I selected 3 lightning juveniles and moved them into an empty black round tub that’s running on the larviculture system.  When […]

Before I forget – sometime on the afternoon of April 30th, 2014, Spawn #31 was laid.  That is all 😉

Yeah, spawn #30 was laid on 4-18-2014; I noticed it in the evening when feeding.  Large pale-orange batch on the far end of the vertical tile in their “tile tepee”.  That’s all.

While I was away, Mike did a great job with the fishroom and the baby Lightnings from Spawn #27.  He got two hatches out of them, which means once again, these eggs hatched out over THREE nights.  Crazy.  When I stopped by Mike’s place on 4-3-14, he had maybe 50-100 pre-settlement offspring in one tank, […]

3/6/2014 marked the arrival of spawn #26.  Another good sized nest of orange-red eggs on the tile, laid on the “roof”, which seems to be the usual location for the pair. As I wrote last about Spawn #25…I thought the hatch had been a dud, but once I configured the larval tank and got things […]

I noticed the F0 White Stripe PNG Maroon Clown pair acting oddly back on 2/16/2014.  Upon closer examination, I discovered this small nest…they’re second, spawned on the back of a large diameter PVC section.  Of course, disturbing the next allowed the Declevis Butterflyfish they live with to eat it….figures.  I’m thinking about removing all the […]

I have two posts besides this one I need to make…life has just been hectic as usual. They’ll come. First, Spawn #24 has been laid.  Sadly, it wasn’t a Valentine’s spawn, it was laid on February 13th, 2014. Following my extensive water testing of larval tanks to see what the heck was going on, I […]

I cannot catch a break. Seriously 2013, for all its hard work, has yielded only FOUR (4!!!!) offspring from the Lightning Maroon pair that will grow to be marketable size in 2014! Spawn #18 was put down on November 28th. This put hatch night as early as Wed, December 4rd, but more likely the 5th, […]

I can only guess what happened, but the eggs were there last night (night of the 12th) and were still there the morning of the 13th.  So I went down around lights out tonight on 11-13 to pull the tile..and the eggs are gone.  No larvae anywhere, which would suggest the hatch happened much earlier […]

Back on track it would seem…Spawn #14 appears to have completed metamorphosis.  Despite good care, and seemingly good success, I can’t estimate more than 25-30 offspring. Spawn #15 didn’t hatch as planned…only 2 babies the first night.  Small hatch the next night, and possibly more the following night.  Hard to tell how many larvae there […]
